If you delete a product or category from your shop, Google will stumble across it the next time it indexes and throw you an error in your Google Webmaster Tools. In this way, people who don't take care of this will accumulate a considerable error list of 500, 1000 or even more errors over time.
You can now type out each error individually and write a new link in the .htaccess file. But this will make your shop slow.
In this case, it makes more sense to work with the database.
With this module you can
FIRST: copy the links of the deleted products from your Google Webmaster Tools, paste them into your shop and define to which functioning / new page the old link should be forwarded. You can simply download the links from Google Webmaster Tools, open the file, mark everything - copy - paste into the shop - done. If you copy existing links again later, they will simply be skipped, as we don't want to ruin your work so far.
By the way, you can also copy links from your htaccess file if you (or your search engine optimiser) have used this type of redirection so far. Our module also recognises rewrite rule data like "Updategarantie-fuer-Modified-Shops::618.html".

SECOND: if you delete a product or category in the future, there is a default setting where to link to,
- you can change this - and you can change the linking for each deleted product and category individually.
Important to understand - the tool only takes care of things you deleted AFTER installation.

Unedited / newly imported links are displayed with a red background, after editing the background of the respective link turns green. If you don't feel like editing the links, you can also switch them all to green with two clicks, so that you can better recognise newly added links.
And to prevent more and more data junk from accumulating, you can delete all data that has not been accessed in the last 6 months at the touch of a button. It is then unlikely that Google will still have them in its index.
Ask your search engine optimiser - he will kiss your feet for this!
